Hello Fenrir!
Thanks for taking the time to look at this.
This post has two purposes: to acquaint you with me and my project here and to upload the "Informed Consent Form" where everyone can get it.
But let's talk about me first.
My name is Nathan Lane, a student at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. As part of my anthropology major, I am conducting a study of an online gaming community. I have had a longtime, long-distance relationship with WoW via living vicariously through some friends of mine, including Hume here at this very guild. And now, WoW is the focus of a small project I will be doing from now until the end of the school year in June.
I've spoken a little with Delivis about the topic and a few others here in the guild, so I hope my presence won't be a problem.
So what will I actually be doing? I'll be lurking the forums and running around WoW itself, trying to understand WoW culture. I may pop into your Vent room to eavesdrop or chat. With luck, I'll be joining in on a few raids, too. If I pop in on your Vent channel unwelcome, ask nosy questions or am otherwise a bother, let me know and I'll leave you in peace. On the other hand, feel free to come up and talk to me. I'm interested in pretty much whatever you have to say and am generally considered to be a friendly guy. Plus, as I am learning to play WoW, I will need all the explanation and help possible, so just kibbitz away.
I'm also going to be conducting some relatively informal interviews about the guild and playing the game, etc. If any of you are interested in doing such a thing, please reply below. It shouldn't take much time and can be accomplished over vent or by chat whilst you're grinding or whatever.
Finally the "Informed Consent Form". The Informed Consent Form is about a page worth of text appended at the bottom of this post. Though it seems like a legalistic piece of lawyerese, it's really not. It's more like an official declaration of my presence here in/around/near guild as well as a reminder that you are not compelled to participate in this study in any way shape or form. It's designed more to protect those being studied than the person doing the study.
So please read and sign it! I need your consent to include you in my project.
An online signature will do. Please PM or email me the Informed Consent Form with your name and date at the bottom. I'd like to have your real name and character name but if you would rather just give me your in game name(s), I think I can work with that.
Minors! If you are under 18, I need your parents to review the form and provide a digital signature as well.

Informed Consent Form
Ethnography
You are invited to be in a research study of in-game, player-created communities and the ways in which they extend beyond game-space. You were selected as a participant because of your connection of Fenrir, the guild that is to form the focus of this study. We ask that you read this form and ask any questions you may have before agreeing to be in the study.
This study is being conducted by Nathan Lane, an anthropology student at Lawrence University, in Appleton Wisconsin.
Background Information:
This study is both an exercise in the tools and techniques that an anthropologist uses to study culture as well as a full-blown research project. Through methods detailed in the Procedures section, I will be compiling an in-depth description of Fenrir Guild as a community in World of Warcraft as well as in real life. As the description develops, a specific research question may develop. Some questions currently being considered at the outset of this project are: “What causes players to form communities while playing?â€Â
